US embassy accident story not convincing!!!

















THE US embassy in Harare yesterday issued a statement entitled, "Clarification of Accident Vehicle Ownership". We published it in full.

A close look at the statement leaves more questions than answers.

Many people were looking for a statement that said who exactly owned the accident truck that killed Mrs Susan Tsvangirai, the Prime Minister's wife.

It is certainly not enough, or convincing to say: "It (the truck) was purchased with USAID funds by a contractor and belonged to the contractor" without actually saying who that contractor was. I am sure US embassy officials would know who that contractor is (was) since it was purchased using USAID funds.

Interestingly, the truck's number plate, 81 TCE-128, belongs to the US embassy.

Independent legislator Jonathan Moyo was quoted as saying: “How can an American-registered car, purchased with American money, driven by a driver hired from Britain and paid with American money; be owned by a British agency funded by British money and formed from the ashes of a British colonial institution?”

The connection between USAID and United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DfID) in this case is troubling; given that the shooting of Air Marshall Perence Shiri a few months ago involved a USAID employee. This is a strange coincidence.

The US embassy says: "The contractor was delivering essential HIV and AIDS drugs and medical supplies to health clinics under an effort co-financed by USAID and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DfID)." Surely if it was co-financed by these two organisations, they should be able to give us more details.

Does the U.S. embassy or DfID care to tell us who the contractor was? Was it DfID? If not, who was it? And why did the UK government quickly issue a statement saying the driver was not "sleeping at the wheel" at the time of the accident? How could they know that a few hours after an accident that occured thousands of miles away, in a remote location in Zimbabwe? How come they were privy to this information when the investigating authorities in Zimbabwe were still investigating the cause of the crash?

The US embassy also says: "The driver of the truck, a Zimbabwean national, was an employee of the contractor, not a USAID employee." The embassy seems to have some insider information that we do not know. Again, who is the contractor?

I was also troubled to hear the UK's DfID declare the accident genuine, just hours after the accident. This is the first time that the UK has commented on a tragic Zimbabwean situation and not connected "President Mugabe's regime" to it. How do they know this, or should I say "How did they know this was a 'genuine' accident?" The UK Government's subsequent lack of interest in that incident is also puzzling, to say the least.

The US embassy in Harare's statement is very cleverly presented and packaged. It starts with condolencies to Prime Minister Tsvangirai's family for the death of his wife Susan. It then ends with the U.S. government's food aid pledge.

The statement read: "The U.S. government remains committed to helping the people of Zimbabwe as it has done for decades. The United States provided over $260 million for emergency programs since October 2007, providing food, health care, safe water, and HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment."

This is very clever packaging. The "clarification of the accident vehicle story" is sandwiched between a condolence statement and a story about the U.S.'s aid program to Zimbabwe -- two importanst stories deserving their own titling.

This clever 'public diplomacy' diverts attention from the main story, as suggested by the title of the statement. Clever indeed, but many of us think this 'explanation' is very skeletal and the US embassy can, and should, give a more detailed explanation. They could start by naming the 'contractor'.

This statement leaves more questions than answers.

Zim polls: ‘Here is the proof that we won’

JOHANNESBURG - The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has provided The Citizen with statistical evidence to back up its claim of being the outright winner in the Zimbabwean presidential election.

The data indicate that a run-off election will not be necessary, as MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai obtained the prerequisite margin to be declared a “hands-down” victor.

The results put Tsvangirai in pole position with 51.7%, while President Robert Mugabe lags behind with 43.3%.

Here is the MDC versus Zanu-PF presidential race vote allocation breakdown in the country’s 10 “provinces”:

* Tsvangirai (49 660) vs Mugabe (11 146) in Bulawayo.

* Tsvangirai (227 387) vs Mugabe (60 523) in Harare.

* Tsvangirai (212 553) vs Mugabe (131 856) in Manicaland.

* Tsvangirai (78 650) vs Mugabe (150 889) in Mashonaland Central.

* Tsvangirai (130 753) vs Mugabe (156 746) in Mashonaland East.

* Tsvangirai (126 832) vs Mugabe (134 329) in Mashonaland West.

* Tsvangirai (164 345) vs Mugabe (152 327) in Masvingo.

* Tsvangirai (68 656) vs Mugabe (39 143) in Matebeleland North.

* Tsvangirai (34 437) vs Mugabe (44 995) in Matebeleland South.

* Tsvangirai (155 122) vs Mugabe (162 338) in Midlands.

In total Tsvangirai and Mugabe amassed 1 248 395 and 1 044 292 votes respectively.


The total number of votes, including those of other candidates, is said to be 2 413 830.

“The Harare and Bulawayo figures were taken from the agreed and declared ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) figures. The agents have already signed for the two sets of the results,” the MDC revealed.

The party added: “All other figures were secured from our polling agents from different stations across the country.”

I AM still puzzled and perplexed by Eddie Cross's narration of the events of the crash that killed Mrs Susan Tsvangirai and left the Prime Minister badly hurt.

Cross made the headlines in the last few months over his "crash and burn" article; but that is not the gist of this piece.

He told the New York Times newspaper a day after the crash that it had not been an accident, and said the MDC-T party will not accept a police report. Besides being preposterous, Cross sounded like he had some insider information about the accident. I will not ask questions as to why the New York Times newspaper had an interview with Cross, and not the party spokesman, Nelson Chamisa. This is a matter between Cross and that newspaper.

However, I am yet to hear of someone who gets to the scene of the accident from 10 kilometres away, before the police, and climbs the top of the accident vehicle to take pictures, before attempting to rescue the victims. This is what Mr Deon Theron, the Deputy President of the Commercial Farmers' Union, did on that fateful day.

He examined the vehicle; but did not "rescue" the victims -- the high profile victims. It is worrisome that it was more important for Mr Theron to take footage, rather than try and rescue the victims.

We know that Mrs Tsvangirai was badly hurt at that juncture, and so was the Prime Minister. Why did Mr Theron not attend to them? Surely that would have been the reason why he rushed to the site? Or was it? If not, does this say something about the judgment of Mr Theron, or his attitude to "accident victims"?

It is also shocking to discover that Cross had more specific details about the "burst front tyre", the "loose under-carriage as a result of the accident", and other accident details; but no information on the state of the victims, Mr and Mrs Tsvangirai, when he spoke to the New York Times. Anyone who has had an opportunity to visit an accident site immediately after the accident would tell you that the state of the vehicle is never on their mind -- the condition of the victim(s) is. But not Mr Theron who preferred to climb the overturned vehicle and take pictures.

Was Mr Theron not at least concerned that an overturned vehicle could burst into flames and kill him, or the victims? I am sure Mr Theron would have seen the Prime Minister or his wife lying down somewhere, or would have at least known that the inhabitants of the car were the Tsvangirai's as he had previously communicated with whoever informed him about the accident (see below). Why then was he less concerned about the welfare of the Prime Minister and his wife, and more concerned about "the scene of the accident"?

Mr Theron's version of the accident, which is disputed by other eyewitnesses, could not have been accurate. Dennis Murira, director of public affairs in the prime minister's office was told a different version of events. The truck driver told the police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, said Murira. So why would Mr Cross deny a police report?

Mr Theron was 10 kilomteres away when the accident happened? The eyewitnesses, surely would have had a more accurate version as they were there when the crash occured. Why did Mr Cross then rely on Mr Theron's version when he was not an eyewitness? How long did it take Mr Theron to get to the scene after the accident?

The New York Times report says Mr Hendrick O'Neill, an MDC-T member "from the area where the crash occured" was suspicious of the "circumstances around the accident". Mr O'Neill is the one who, apparently, called Mr Theron "who lives near the scene" and told him about the accident. So both men are from the same area - where the accident happened? Why then did Mr O'Neill ring Mr Theron when he was from the same area? How did Mr O'Neill know about the accident? Was he an eyewitness? How did he know about it before Mr Theron "who lives near the scene"? How many kilomteres from the scene does Mr O'Neill live, as compared to Mr Theron? Why was it important to call Mr Theron and not the police, or for him to get to the accident scene promptly?

"I was looking for someone to get to the site because I was very suspicious about the circumstances around the accident," the New York Time quotes Mr O'Neill telling Mr Cross. What were those "circumstances" at this stage - soon after the crash? How long was it after the accident did Mr O'Neill know about it or "the circumstances"? He would have had to be on the scene to be "suspicious about the circumstances around the accident" or somebody else would have told him on the phone. If somebody did, who was it?

"So he contacted Deon Theron, the vice president of the Commercial Farmers Union (CFU), who lives near the scene. 'Morgan has been a target for some time'," the New York Times quotes Mr Cross.

Why would he (Mr O'Neill) contact Mr Theron when he also lives near the scene? He could have gone there himself and "collected the evidence". Did it need a farmer - a CFU Vice President? What exactly was Mr Theron required to do in these circumstances, that Mr O'Neill could not do? Afterall he was the first one to know about the accident, and he lived "in that area" anyway. In any case, one would have thought the prime concern was to rescue Mr Tsvangirai (and his wife) as he "has been a target for some time".

Surely, there was a lapse of time, from the time when Mr O'Neill saw, or heard about, the accident to the time he communicated with Mr Theron. How long was that time? How long did it take Mr Theron to get to the scene "10 kilometres" away? Did Mr O'Neill also ring the police? If not, why not? Did Mr O'Neill eventually attend the scene as he was "suspicious about the circumstances around the accident"? If not, why not?

We hope someone will care to answer these questions, among other questions already in the public domain. This is important so that we avoid another "crash and burn".

The questions that Murombedzi has raised are very valid and needs to be addressed. Why is Eddie Cross crying more than the bereaved? Why is that when any publication gives a different slant as opposed to your propaganda nonsense, you always like to label the publication as CIO sponsored? You might have been able to fool some Zimbabweans (a minority) all the time with your propaganda but you have failed dismally to fool the majority of Zimbabweans and that's what counts.Did you know that HIV/AIDs kills around 2,300 people a week in Zim? You want to highlight cholera deaths that were a result of sanctions imposed by the West? If anyone is to be accused for living in the past, it has to be your kind who have used every trick in the book to destroy your own country and have been foolish enough to fight proxy wars for other people's vested interests. How many lies have you peddled about Zimbabwe ?Zimbabwe has now got an inclusive govt in place and characters like you are very unhappy with the arrangement because you were happy exploiting the situation pertaining before for your own very selfish reasons. Tapera, you are confused.
If our Prime Minister had died in that accident can you imagine the repurcussions on our President's head? The country would have been a blood bath with 50% of the country immediately taking up the cudgels for his own blood.
The GNU is our best shot at peace in Zimbabwe, but obviously this is not wot you want with your rhetoric comments even though it is what the remainder of the people want. But not want YOU want!
That accidcent was definitely not a uMugabe set up as you indicate.
It might well have been the hand of God, because in sacrificing Susan's life, through her blood and our salted tears, he has brought the entire country together, but then again, it may not have been.
That terrible accident definitely had nothing to do with ZanuPF or Robert Mugabe.

We are all ashamed of Phillip Murombedzi. He still clings and lives in the past. Sooner than later, this CIO paper like the others before it, will hit the dust. Given the dawn of an open society in Zimbabwe, for whom will Phillip and the CIO institutions be working?

REMEMBER how involved Ian Huntley, the school caretaker, wanted to be in helping the police with their enquiries over the murder of the girls in the HIGH PROFILE SOHAM murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in August 2002?

He was all over the news, in the headlines and in the papers which is very similar to some one else we know.

Why is Cross so adamant about this and that, like a dog with a bone? this is a case of what does he know more likely, than what doesnt he know?

sorry Dudes, but the Number 1 rule in FIRST AID if you see anyone in a car accident, provided there is no likelihood of fire, is to leave the victims be until the PARAMEDICS arrive on the scene.
Call the ambulance, call the police, call MARS, but dont try and do that which they have been trained to do.

Just make very sure that approaching traffic is not going to cause anymore disasters. Immediately put barriers up to slow and stop the traffic.

Keep talking to the victims and cover them, and try to keep them warm. Make sure there are no objects in their mouth and that they can breathe. they will be going into shock and you need to keep them warm. do not give them anything to drink or eat. Anaesthetics require an empty gut remember which is why we fast before surgery.

You see, if someone has a broken back, or broken legs, you can do more damage than good by dragging them out, dislodging fragile arteries which could in turn be pierced by broken bones and in the case of a broken back, destroy the nervous system in your efforts to help causing paralysis for the rest of their life. It may be your fault they are paralysed, not being involved in an accident.

If someone has a scalp injury and you pull them away, their brain could fall out. whereas if you leave them until the Paramedics arrive, they can wrap everything into place first before moving the patient. Keep talking and keep them warm.

If someone is knifed, leave the knife or pierced by a sharp object, leave it in there until they get to hospital. it might be holding a severed vein in place which could be clamped by a surgeon but if you remove it that person could bleed to death.

If you have not been trained in this, then its time you were. Every adult should do the course during their employment in this country. Its usally free in your place of employment. I did it and when asked why i explained, we have many road accidents in Zimbabwe and i have always felt at a loss what to do. Be proactive and get involved in a first aid course.

I also think every school child should undergo a FIRST AID COURSE in the school's curriculum. It should be a legal requirement if you are a citizen of Zimbabwe.

PHILIP!..You have come up with more questions to add to the list which we already have. It really boggles our minds as Zimbabwean Africans as to why someone would film an accident seated on top of a car with the victims lying helplessly on the ground. Is this being human and does it show friendship.?

Exit scene one enter scene two. The whole reaction of the CFU members involved in this whole saga is questionable. They try to craft a product which they try to get customers who can buy it. All their interview is with the American news paper. Indeed they have managed to get a few customers in the likes of MUROZVI MUTUNGA who happens to have been Ant Mugabe from the days of the war for Independence. Can this person tell us the people who died due to different views with Mugabe. It will be of benefit to give examples with some bit of evidence.

Scene three. Murozvi is it not that the American Embassy and the UK confirmed that the truck was theirs. Even their governments confirmed and indeed agreed that its their truck. This truck had and it still has the American Embassy number plates plus a USAID logo. So what exactly are you saying? Is it because you want us to know that you don't like President Mugabe? Or is it just because you don't care and never value an African life.? Hence filming a desperate life instead of saving it? You can never twist our minds.

How did you know this driver was not supposed to have been driving the truck? All we know is that the truck belongs to the USA & UK (USAID & DifD). This is crystal clear unless if you are implying that we are also so stupid like you to an extant that we fail to see reason in its logical sense. I am sure if anybody in the likes of the President wanted to kill the PM then he could have been killed a long way back during the MDC's formative stages.

Was this funeral attended by all high profile figures in Zimbabwe? Chihuri, Shiri, bla blah . Moreover its not a must that people have to attend funerals. What if Chiwenga's mother was gasping for air? He should have gone to the funeral so as to please MUROZVI this is silly.If Shiri was found filming the accident then its a different story. I want to pose this question to you MUROZVI how many of your cousins Eddie Cross included attended the funeral? All we know is that McGee did not attend so did the Bushman.

I would be suspicious of the regime change people including MUROZVI who have been abandoned by
the PM. Even an idiot knows the MDC sponsors especially the CFU, British and the USA are very bitter by Tsvangirai's decision to get into government with Mugabe.They will not forgive the PM under whatever circumstance and will always hide behind Mugabe. Thank you very much for the article. After reading your article it did not take me time to see that you are very good at analysing detail. However, you forgot to ask some questions for example (a) why is it that all people who have different views to Mugabe die by road accident? (b) Why is it that that truck was driven by a driver who was not supposed to be driving it that day. (c) Have you thought about the ownership of that car as well, we do not know the owner up to this day. (d) Although people are not forced to attend funerals, but why did Chihuri, Chiwenga and Shiri not attend the funeral? It boggles the mind and leaves more questions than answers to the whole incident. while I do not supprt what the farmer did I feel your analysis in too shallow. While I applaud you for being analytical, I feel you were partisan in your analysis which has persuaded me to conclude that you are writing in support of Zanu. It is not bad supporting Zanu as long as you represent yourself in a way that will make us assume that you are rational in deeds and conduct and this will persuade us to continue reading your articles. Philip- You have raised very relevant concerns regarding the actions of the trio Eddie Cross, O'Neill and Theron. The three belong to the Commercial Farmers Union. Hopefully, the powers to be investigate this trio.
What was Eddie Cross doing in New York anyway? Was he there to persuade the Obama adminstation to extend the sanctions period. This Eddie Cross is no friend of Zimbabwe since he is on record as saying that he hoped the Zim economy would crash and burn just as his failed companies did and was declared bankrupt. This failed bankrupt has no contribution to make at all to the turnaround of Zimbabwe.

This is what Mr Deon Theron, the Deputy President of the Commercial Farmers' Union, did on that fateful day.

He examined the vehicle; but did not "rescue" the victims -- the high profile victims. It is worrisome that it was more important for Mr Theron to take footage, rather than try and rescue the victims.

We know that Mrs Tsvangirai was badly hurt at that juncture, and so was the Prime Minister. Why did Mr Theron not attend to them? Surely that would have been the reason why he rushed to the site? Or was it? If not, does this say something about the judgment of Mr Theron, or his attitude to "accident victims"?

It is also shocking to discover that Cross had more specific details about the "burst front tyre", the "loose under-carriage as a result of the accident", and other accident details; but no information on the state of the victims, Mr and Mrs Tsvangirai, when he spoke to the New York Times. Anyone who has had an opportunity to visit an accident site immediately after the accident would tell you that the state of the vehicle is never on their mind -- the condition of the victim(s) is. But not Mr Theron who preferred to climb the overturned vehicle and take pictures.

Was Mr Theron not at least concerned that an overturned vehicle could burst into flames and kill him, or the victims? I am sure Mr Theron would have seen the Prime Minister or his wife lying down somewhere, or would have at least known that the inhabitants of the car were the Tsvangirai's as he had previously communicated with whoever informed him about the accident (see below). Why then was he less concerned about the welfare of the Prime Minister and his wife, and more concerned about "the scene of the accident"?

Mr Theron's version of the accident, which is disputed by other eyewitnesses, could not have been accurate. Dennis Murira, director of public affairs in the prime minister’s office was told a different version of events. The truck driver told the police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, said Murira. So why would Mr Cross deny a police report?
























Mr Theron was 10 kilometres away when the accident happened? The eyewitnesses, surely would have had a more accurate version as they were there when the crash occured. Why did Mr Cross then rely on Mr Theron's version when he was not an eyewitness? How long did it take Mr Theron to get to the scene after the accident?

The New York Times report says Mr Hendrick O'Neill, an MDC-T member "from the area where the crash occured" was suspicious of the "circumstances around the accident". Mr O'Neill is the one who, apparently, called Mr Theron "who lives near the scene" and told him about the accident. So both men are from the same area - where the accident happened? Why then did Mr O'Neill ring Mr Theron when he was from the same area? How did Mr O'Neill know about the accident? Was he an eyewitness? How did he know about it before Mr Theron "who lives near the scene"? How many kilomteres from the scene does Mr O'Neill live, as compared to Mr Theron? Why was it important to call Mr Theron and not the police, or for him to get to the accident scene promptly?

“I was looking for someone to get to the site because I was very suspicious about the circumstances around the accident,” the New York Time quotes Mr O’Neill telling Mr Cross. What were those "circumstances" at this stage - soon after the crash? How long was it after the accident did Mr O'Neill know about it or "the circumstances"? He would have had to be on the scene to be "suspicious about the circumstances around the accident" or somebody else would have told him on the phone. If somebody did, who was it?

















"So he contacted Deon Theron, the vice president of the Commercial Farmers Union (CFU), who lives near the scene. 'Morgan has been a target for some time'," the New York Times quotes Mr Cross.

Why would he (Mr O'Neill) contact Mr Theron when he also lives near the scene? He could have gone there himself and "collected the evidence". Did it need a farmer - a CFU Vice President? What exactly was Mr Theron required to do in these circumstances, that Mr O'Neill could not do? Afterall he was the first one to know about the accident, and he lived "in that area" anyway. In any case, one would have thought the prime concern was to rescue Mr Tsvangirai (and his wife) as he "has been a target for some time".







Surely, there was a lapse of time, from the time when Mr O'Neill saw, or heard about, the accident to the time he communicated with Mr Theron. How long was that time? How long did it take Mr Theron to get to the scene "10 kilometres" away? Did Mr O'Neill also ring the police? If not, why not? Did Mr O'Neill eventually attend the scene as he was "suspicious about the circumstances around the accident"? If not, why not?

We hope someone will care to answer these questions, among other questions already in the public domain. This is important so that we avoid another "crash and burn".

Road accidents involving MDC leaders, just too convenient to be coincidental!!!

The late but popular blind singer Paul Matavire, once said in one of his songs, “Munyika muno mune munemapere akasimira nheve dzehwayi, kurasisa anoda kuparadzwa,” (This world is full of hyenas in sheep skins to mislead victims)

MDC leadership must be careful here and stop pretending that Zanu PF functionaries are friends. Zanu PF was a venomous snake yesterday and shall remain so today and tomorrow. If a python changes colour to suit the environment it is operating in, does it cease to be a snake? Does it ever abandon its poisonous killing missions? This is a fact and the better if this sinks into the minds and hearts of MDC leaders. Now the python is biting from within, at very close ranges and well camouflaged.

Let us not pretend that we are safe when we are not.

Can anyone help us to try and make sense of the events surrounding the chronic road accidents involving MDC leaders?

On the date of the Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai’s inauguration, guess what happened?

A heavy truck made a spectacular U-turn in-front of the speeding car of our Vice President Thokozani Khupe, causing a bad accident in the process. Fortunately Khupe was not in the car, but one of her relatives died. Khupe’s mother who was also in the vehicle was seriously injured and is fighting for her life in a Pretoria hospital in South Africa.

Nothing was said publicly about it by the national leadership. The incident never received prominence in the media. I am sure some people are mistaking the noble principle of compromising as surrendering. These ministerial luxuries should not hoodwink MDC leaders into exposing their necks too much to the razor-sharp political guillotine of the junta. Each time the guillotine blade falls down it takes or misses lives of our national leaders. This is it!

As some of us who are autonomous minded were still grappling with Khupe’s accident, another traffic tragedy reached home. Tsvangirai was involved in an accident which claimed the life of his wife, Susan Tsvangirai. We hear it was a genuine accident. Mugabe described the accident as the hand of God. Minister of defence Emmerson Mnangangwa, accused the Americans of trying to kill Tsvangirai. Mnangagwa went on to predict that the Americans would come after Tsvangirai again.

It however surfaced last weekend that the ‘blood truck’ in question belongs to Savious, a Zanu PF minister and a renowned Kaguvi building subversive operative.

As if this is not enough evidence, two MDC ministers, Sipepa Nkomo and Gordon Ndlovu narrowly escaped death in Harare this week as they were on their way to the airport.

The two ministers had just attended the interment of the late former army chief Vitalis Zvinavashe at the Heroes’ Acre.

A speeding truck from ‘Kaguvi building’ smashed into their stationary Merdeces Benz at a robot. Doesn’t this tell us something? Are these still coincidences? There must be something rotten about the security system of MDC leaders.













Who does not know Zanu PF’s trend when it comes to eliminating those they regard as obstacles to their political projects? Who is naïve to the fact that Zanu PF is smart in eliminating those working at close range with them as compared to far ranged opponents? Are we now saying these perennial killers are now our lovely brothers and not snakes anymore? Isn’t a fact that graves at the heroes’ acre of Zimbabwe are filled with corpses of individuals who died in mysterious road accidents which were planned in Kaguvi building and CMED workshops?

What happened to Border Gezi? What happened to Moven Mahachi? What happened to Josiah Magamba Tongogara? What happened to Zororai Duri? What of the parcel letter which killed Herbert Chitepo as he was about to drive out? Can anyone shed light to us about the black dog which Sydney Malunga saw before dying in the car accident? What happened to Amai Susan Tsvangirai? A-ah vakomana ngatingwarireyi apa. Tapera! Tisazoyeuka bako tanaiwa.



These car accidents involving MDC leaders are just too convenient to be coincidental. These are facts. The truth of the matter is that the junta will again come after Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and kill him dead. This is hard to believe and too blunt a statement to make! I risk being dismissed as a prophet of doom. Isn’t it? Should one avoid the doom warning even if a catastrophic doom is pending?

This, they will do, if nothing is done. Something should have been done by yesterday. The security arrangements for our leader must be fast-tracked. We don’t need blood in the streets, roads and highways of Zimbabwe.

This junta will come after Thokozani Khupe. If nothing is done, we shall be burying her soon. Of course this is the truth! Yes I am an alarmist! But I am alarming the nation to reality. I am certain that these statements will never be interpreted to mean that I wish Khupe death. It’s an expression of genuine concern.






Our excellent young minister, Nelson Chamisa is also a candidate of death. Imagine! Yes, let no-one doubts this? Does anyone think that the junta is happy to see the youthful Chamisa being a minister on an MDC ticket? I hope no-one will read this to mean that I wish Chamisa death.



The security of MDC leaders must be outsourced. There is nothing improper about this. Zimbabwe soldiers gave Laurent Kabila security immediately after usurps power from Mobutu. Robert Mugabe went into office from the bush with his body-guards. Nelson Mandela went into office in 1994 with his MK body-guards?

Tsvangirai’s former jailers, tormentors can’t be his security providers today. Never!

I write you, Your Excellency, this letter in a grave moment of grief as we mourn our dear departed mother, Amai Susan Tsvangirai. We have held various Services here in Johannesburg and many of these Memorial Services have been covered by various Media houses.

 

On the same day that you had that evil, fatal accident, I had been invited by the SABC a few days before to be on their SABCINTERNATIONAL Programme "African Views" and the subject of discussion was "Is Forgiveness possible in Zimbabwe???" The Programme was going to be aired "live" on the same day that the attempt on your life was executed!

 

I was going to say on that Programme that for forgiveness to work, there must be a realization by the wrongful party that there are wrongs that they have done in the first place.

 

I was also going to say that the wrongful party was expected to offer their sincere request for forgiveness to make the wronged party feel and receive the air of contrition so as to be make an informed choice whether to give that forgiveness or not.

 

I had consulted as widely as I could so that my contributions would not be out of step with the general feelings of the ordinary Zimbabweans. Mr Nelson Chamisa is personally in my mailing lists and he can testify to that regular wide consultation on my part.

 

BUT ALAS!!!...... while I was waiting for the vehicle from the SABC to arrive somewhere in Johannesburg to pick me up, I received a call that our dear President, who for reasons best known by SADC, is now the Prime Minister, had just been involved in a car accident and the True First Lady had lost her life on the spot and the President was fighting for his life in a Harare hospital.

 

Then I said to myself….. "What now?" I immediately thought of the Gallant General Josiah Magama Tongogara, Cde Sidney Malunga, Cde Witness Rukarwa, Cde Chris Ushewokunze, Cde Border Gezi, Mr Peter Pamire, Cde Zororo Duri, Cde William Ndangana, Cde Moven Mahachi to mention but a few. I convinced myself what line Cde Josiah Tongogara would have wanted me to take. The line Robert Mugabe's own "drowned brother" Albert Mugabe would have wanted me to take. The line the surviving victim, Cde Patrick Kombayi would have wanted me to take. The line Robert Mugabe's missing Secretary Rashiwe Guzha would have wanted me to take. The line the "poisoned" Cde Maurice Nyagumbo would have wanted me to take! The line Dr Joshua Nkomo's widow our dear Mama MaFuyane (also poisoned) would have wanted me to take! The line the similarly poisoned General Lookout Masuku would have wanted me to take!

At that time I didn't know the truck belonged to the murderous Saviours Kasukuwere. Neither did I know then that Kasukuwere had rushed to you, our dear President with a syringe in his hand….. most probably to administer the much-needed First Aid assistance which you desperately required as you lay helplessly on the rough ground! Neither did I know then that the driver that was driving that assassin truck was being driven by a "new" driver and not the "regular" one.

 

I also had not known then about the true reason why you had to absent yourself from that stupid Birthday bash of our most evil Oppressor which had been held a couple of days before this tragic, dark day!

 

With hindsight, I'm very satisfied that the line I took was correct one! Robert Mugabe is indeed the Master-Assassin! Well if he wasn't in your case, at least I'm convinced the leopards he reared are grown up and can do the job now without his trillion-dollar signature!

 

NOW TO MY APPEAL TO YOU, YOUR EXCELLENCY, SIR!!!

 

Because of something that has happened to me these past few days, I have decided to share some thoughts with you, Your Excellency!

 

What happened to me of late is.....my loved one now physically leaves me to answer her phone when it rings. She never used to do that in all our 8 years together. She now deletes all calls from the Call Register and deletes all sms's from her cellphone before she returns to me.

 

She is in normally in Zimbabwe but she had visited me this past week-end and I had last seen her in June, 2008. I admit I've made her suffer by my "stupid activism" which is making her and the children go hungry.

 

In December, 2008, she celebrated Christmas cleaning up the mess of broken glass  etc after the petrol bomb which was thrown into the house they live….. (I say "they" because I live a thousand kilometers away in Gauteng, South Africa myself!)

I'm not complaining about anything here! I'm only highlighting the reason why she could have been tempted to agree to carry another man's baby in her womb in my absence!

Incidentally I'm a South African Citizen by Birth not like Mutumwa Mawere who rushed to arrange his Citizenship with the then Minister of Home Affairs to escape his legitimate prosecution for externalizing the resources of Zimbabwe!..... and to be first in line to benefit from the Black Empowerment Exercise (BEE) which is being implemented here in South Africa. (This is a subject on its own for which I'm preparing a full submission!)

 

The significance of my always mentioning my dual Citizenship is that I was "completely stupid and thoroughly misplaced" in continuing to involve myself in treacherous Zim politics yet arrangements are being made to "normalize" the situation back home…… (for which I have lost a lot…… including the woman I loved…) yet I cannot go there myself to join in the Appeal for that normalization!

 

I should have stayed in South Africa quietly and forgotten all about the slimy, slippery Zim Politics!

 

Your Excellency, its not only me who is crying!

 

Our women are being "slept" each night at the very Central Methodist Church in Johannesburg and many, not being raped, but just for R10 to get a plate of sadza and stew!

 

Our women are raped as they cross the river Limpopo by those notorious "Maguma-gumas."

 

Our women are being raped at Marabastad Home Affairs night after night as they await a turn to go into the Offices to apply for the "asylum papers."

 

I could go on and on and on and on and on …………………. And on and on!

 

If I commit suicide, at least I have left my blogs which will include this very Open Letter!

 

I, however, may not commit suicide because I know there is a God in Heaven who will not receive me if I did something like that ……… I wonder what to do!

 

I'm sure this Open Letter to you, Your Excellency, will be circulated and debated upon on my websites and numerous others and I humbly ask you to follow all the debates as you rest and recuperate in this strange land of Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki and others! JOHANNESBURG - The truck that killed Susan Tsvangirai the wife of the Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai in a road crash is owned by Saviour Kasukuwere a former spy agent in the CIO and Youth and Gender Development Minister in the inclusive government, a South African newspaper The Sunday Sun revealed.

The revelations will boost fears that the death crash was more sinister than a simple accident - although Tsvangirai himself has said he is satisfied with the official explanation. See Report attached below.

Many believe the government is trying to cover up an embarrassing lack of proper security for Tsvangirai. who was injured in the crash.

The investigator a former Harare CID officer, told Sunday Sun that inquiries showed the truck belonged to Cum Oil, a company owned by Kasukuwere. The truck was purchased using USAID funds by a contractor. 

He said his investigations were not complete - "we are not looking for scapegoats, only the truth".

But he declined to reveal who hired him to investigate the crash.

"Tyson" as he is popularly known, has worked as Robert Mugabe's body guard.

Kasukuwere was one of the first government officials to visit the Prime Minister in hospital at the Avenues Clinic in Harare.

The amazing coincidence of his truck's involvement was revealed in Harare by a private investigator probing the tragic accident that took the life of the Prime Minister's wife Susan.

Kasukuwere has worked in the Zimbabwean government's Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO)'s close Security Unit, a crack department in the spy organisation which reports directly to the President. Its role is to spy on CIO agents and government officials, including Zanu PF politicians.

The notorious Mt Darwin MP has a menacing body and menacing looks and a close confidante of the President alongside the Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa and he is normally tasked to carry out ruthless missions on behalf of Robert Mugabe.

Sources say Kasukuwere gained the favour of Robert Mugabe and Emmerson Mnangagwa when he worked for (Central Mechanical Equipment Department (CMED) as a driver and spy agent monitoring the movement and servicing of government officials' vehicles.

Over the years, Kasukuwere has become obsessed with eliminating Zanu PF rivals in Mashonaland Central to secure his position as the unchallenged political baron in that province.

It is believed that Kasukuwere drove out Mashonaland Central businessman James Makamba into exile and General Solomon Mujuru who had vast farming interests in the region was sent packing back to his native Chivu. 

Tyson is also linked to the death of the province's budding young Zanu PF politicians Border Gezi, Elliot Manyika and the recent arrest of former Guruwe MP David Butau on his return from exile in the UK. Butau, like James Makamba was Solomon Mujuru's business front man.

In 2005 he spied on Phillip Chiyangwa, Tendai Matambanadzo, a banker, and Itai Marchi Zanu-PF director of Security, and long-serving Zimbabwe diplomat Godfrey Dzvairo and they were convicted of breaching the Official Secrets Act and given sentences ranging between five to six years in jail on accusations that they sold information to South African Intelligence.

Kasukuwere is also linked to the attempted murder of MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisa two years ago. Chamisa was about to fly to Europe on party business and he received a menacing phone call from the Mt Darwin MP who told him he was not going anywhere, and when he got to the airport, he was beaten by thugs and left for dead with a gashing wound on the forehead.

In the disputed violent Presidential elections run-off, he directed political assasinations, abductions and torture in Mashonaland Central and engineered attacks on US embassy vehicles. 

During his time as a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative in Manicaland in the Nineties, he was nicknamed "Mike Tyson" because of his ruthlessness and precision in dealing with political foes.

Kasukuwere is a wealthy individual and his youthful brother Stanley had a brief stint as Chairman of Dynamos football club.

However, in another report by a Zimbabwe Sunday paper The Standard, John Snow International (JSI) "Deliver project" has opened an internal investigation on how the "killer truck" that claimed the life of the Prime Minister's wife Susan was dispatched last Friday, in a new twist to the accident.

The truck was involved in an accident with Tsvangirai's car on Friday.

The Supply Chain Management System (SCMS), is the contractor of the "USAid/Deliver Projects" aimed at strengthening HIV/Aids and family planning supply chains in developing countries run by JSI

According to the official JSI website the "Deliver project" helps developing countries "establish effective and efficient supply chains for public health and family planning programmes".

A confidential internal memorandum in the possession of The Standard, dated March 9 — three days after the accident — said the truck belonged to JSI but was not driven by a JSI driver.

"As you may have heard, there was a tragic car accident on Friday (March 6) in Zimbabwe in which the Prime Minister (Morgan Tsvangirai) was injured and his wife was killed.

"The vehicle involved in this accident was registered to USAid/Deliver (a JSI Project) although not driven by a JSI driver, as far as we know. At this point, further details about the accident are unknown.

"Understandably, this tragedy has generated a lot of media interest. If you receive any inquiries from the media, we ask that you please direct them to Penelope Riseborough, WEI/JSI Director of Communication in Boston," the memorandum said.

JSI has launched an internal investigation to unravel how the truck was dispatched under unclear circumstances, leading to the fatal accident along the Harare-Masvingo highway on March 6.

Sources said that an "administrator", identified only as N Dube and in charge of the delivery trucks, had been quizzed by management amid reports that she had been sent on suspension pending investigations.

The administrator was not at work when The Standard visited JSI head offices at Agriculture House in Marlborough on Friday.

"The administrator has been quizzed on how the truck was released laden with SCMC drugs but with an unofficial driver. If it was coming from delivery in Masvingo it should have been empty," the source told The Standard.

It was not immediately possible to get details of the whereabouts of the administrator because of the blanket ban on talking to the media.

David Alt, the JSI's country director, was locked in meetings when The Standard visited JSI headquarters. He did not respond to written questions on the alleged suspension of the administrator.

However, late on Friday afternoon JSI released a statement in which it said: "We have learned with great sadness about the death of Susan Tsvangirai in a tragic accident on Friday afternoon. We cannot at this time make any comment on the detail of the accident but we are co-operating fully with the authorities to ensure the investigation is open and transparent.

"We send our deepest condolences to the Prime Minister and his family at this terrible time and hope they find peace and comfort in the coming weeks."

Prime Minister Tsvangirai and his wife were being driven in a Toyota 4x4 Land Cruiser to their rural home in Buhera, when they were sideswiped by the Nissan UD truck driven by Chinoona Mwanda (35). The PM's Land Cruiser was forced into a spin rolling over at least three times, killing his wife Susan.

Mwanda's colleagues told The Standard he had been sent for "rehabilitation" but no one is saying where or for how long. They also said other staff at different sites had been recalled and operations put on hold.

The MDC would like thank all organisations and Zimbabweans from all
walks of life who joined the Tsvangirai family and the party in
mourning the untimely death of Amai Susan Nyaradzo Tsvangirai, the
wife of MDC President and Prime Minister Hon. Morgan Tsvangirai..

Amai Tsvangirai died last week when the vehicle she was travelling in
with her husband was involved in an accident along the Harare –
Masvingo Highway on their way to Buhera, their rural home.

People from all walks of life, church organisations, civil society,
labour, the diplomatic community, business, Zanu PF and other MDC
formation, converged at the Tsvangirai residence in Harare to pay
their last respects and share their grief with the Tsvangirai family
and the MDC.

Thousands of people also travelled to Humanikwa Village, the
Tsvangirai family homestead home at Humanikwa Village to bury Amai
Tsvangirai.

The MDC is grateful at the support that was shown by the people and
leaders of Zimbabwe, the SADC region and the world at large in
mourning the untimely death of Amai Tsvangirai who was a unifier in
both the Tsvangirai family and the MDC.

We hope that this spirit of togetherness will continue for the sake of
rebuilding Zimbabwe especially at this critical stage following the
formation of an inclusive government.

The death of Amai Tsvangirai was a shock to everyone especially at
this early formation of the inclusive government when she was expected
to give both moral and spiritual support to Hon. Tsvangirai, the
family and the party.
